CAFFSA Team and Board

CEO

Dr Rob Martin

Rob is the current Chief Executive Officer of Child and Family Focus SA (CAFFSA), the South Australian peak body and industry association for child protection and child safety.

Rob has proven experience in executive leadership and oversight of organizational governance processes, strategic planning and administrative management in a child safety and child development context. This is coupled with over 15 years of experience working in the child safety, youth services and mental health sectors in South Australia.

As the current CEO of the Child and Family Focus SA, Rob has played an instrumental role in coordinating the non-government sector's feedback and advice to government on the implementation of child protection systems reform and has advocated to the highest levels of government and state cabinet for reform measures that go beyond administrative and legislative amendments. Rob has worked closely with other peak bodies as well as the CAFFSA Board and membership to develop position statements around what a collaborative partnership between government and the sector could look like to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people, including improvements to their mental health and wellbeing.

Rob has demonstrated intellectual leadership in the development of non-government responses to legislative amendments emanating from the recommendations of the Nyland Royal Commission into Child Protection Systems, and has submitted a number of position papers around critical issues including prevention and early intervention, children's advocacy and on the need for dedicated responses to the needs of Aboriginal children and families and the multiplicity of factors that lead to poor mental health and social and emotional health outcomes for Aboriginal children and their families. Rob’s deep level of understanding of intergenerational trauma has been instrumental in this capacity.

Rob holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (Political Science), Master of Arts (International Relations and International Development), Graduate Certificate of International Community Development, Master of Laws (International Law), Master of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences, Master of Social Work, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Rob’s PhD thesis was titled ‘Social policy responses to complex childhood trauma in South Australia: A post-structural analysis’.
